At the foot of the mountains
Kuzma lives with her mother in the largest city in her country. The new president, nicknamed The Butcher, has decided to divide the population into two groups: Parallelograms and Triangles. The latter are hunted down and gradually disappear. Kuzma must flee alone from the life she has always known. She runs away and creates an imaginary sister, powerful and adventurous: Adna.
Part novel, part picture book, this book recounts war and fascism with humour, extravagance and quirkiness, in a world where reality and imagination merge. A fair and luminous story, told from a child’s perspective, which radiates vitality and hope. Fanny Dreyer’s illustrations add a touch of softness to the story.

Fanny Dreyer
Fanny Dreyer grew up in Switzerland, not far from the mountains and forests. She studied illustration at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, where she still lives. Her illustrations oscillate between realism and naivety. Her techniques are mixed, ranging from felt-tip pens to pencils, acrylics to inks, and sometimes risographic printing. She offers a multifaceted universe in which landscapes, folklore and children play a singular role.
She currently divides her time between children's books, illustrations for the press and the cultural sector, children's workshops, school events and the Cuistax illustrators' collective, of which she is one of the founders. Her recent publications include La colonie de vacances (Albin Michel Jeunesse, 2021) and Collections (with Victoire de Changy, La Partie, 2023).
